Question: Depict about the Accounting for Managers of Governance-Legislation Update. Answer: Bookkeeping is the basic piece of dealing with an association, it is characterized to be the way toward recording the fiscal report, recording, ordering, confirming, summing up, deciphering and convey the financing data of the organization. The basic role of the paper is to characterize the principle capacity of bookkeeping in a business undertaking, it will clarify the connection among bookkeeping and the board in an association. Numerous business association utilizes various techniques for bookkeeping to play out their budgetary administration, the investigation will expand on different strategies for bookkeeping and the explanation with regards to why various organizations may like to utilize them as a major aspect of their money related administration methodologies. Issue 1 Deterioration techniques Deterioration is a piece of the bookkeeping in working business association, it explained on the usefulness of substantial resources corresponding to their financial life inside the association. Devaluation is characterized to be the changeless and proceeding with decrease in quality, amount just as the estimations of the benefit (Brigham, and Ehrhardt, 2013). The principle reason for deterioration in bookkeeping is to show on how much the organization resources have been utilized and how the rest of the worth could be used so as to accomplish the organization objective by increase in gainfulness making. The financial additions of organization A have been acknowledged consistently over the four-year time frame by receiving the straight-line strategy for devaluation and this will be the equivalent in the later years. Since returns of an advantage can't be estimated over its valuable life, it has empowered organization A to settle on money related choices fittingly both in the short-run and in since quite a while ago run (Titman, Keown, and Martin, 2015). From its initiation organization B has been making little gains on account of the high devaluation charged on its benefits. Since they embraced the twofold down strategy a large portion of the deterioration cost has been charged in the couple of long stretches of its activity. At last picks up will be acknowledged a while later (Crosby, 2015). Decision of devaluation technique portrays the money related returns of an organization. It is essential to investigate if either the advantage is to be utilized proportionately in its life expectancy or it will be utilized regularly in the underlying time frame. Twofold declining technique results to low gains in pay of an organization its underlying stages in this manner causing organizations to receive the utilization of straight line strategy. Organization fiscal summaries Fiscal summaries contain point by point data which loan bosses and financial specialists depend on to settle on speculation decisions. It requires proficient ability to esteem hazard so as to anticipate the economy in the market (Shafer, W.E., 2015). The three fiscal reports are salary proclamation, asset report and articulation of incomes. Devaluation on salary articulations are managed as uses and are not to be overlooked as they are deducted. They are demonstrated along with the costs acquired during that monetary year. The former year devaluation is summarized with the current costs so as to keep up aggregated deterioration that is equal (Henderson, Peirson, Herbohn, and Howieson, 2015). The benefit an incentive in the announcement of money related position is shown against liabilities and value gains. Devaluation is orchestrated in a similar segment with resources. Deterioration makes capital resources devalue in esteem so they are orchestrated in a similar section with resources (Wuttke, Blome, and Henke, 2013). The book esteem acquired empowers one to have a reasonable glance at the worth the benefit has lost. At the point when income spending plan is readied devaluation is viewed as a decrease from cost which shows no impact in the fiscal summary. Devaluation turns into a suitable cost when available salary is determined and this lessens available pay the organization is to pay (Shafer, W.E., 2015). In this manner, deterioration is a fundamental component which has make effect on the money related account of the organization, the devaluation adjusts are treated as the costs in budget reports of the organization. They ought to be very much held onto just as viewed as crucial factor of deciding the organizations budgetary execution (Weil, Schipper, and Francis, 2013). Issue 2 Capital fund of the organization The accomplishment of hierarchical objectives is dictated by the capital budgetary structures which are introduced by the administration. The capital money related structure is a fundamental piece of organization the executives which commits investors and the top administration to examine so as to make a discerning end while planning the capital structure of the organization (Peirson, Brown, Easton, and Howard, 2014). The money related targets of business shift contingent upon the size of the organizations, huge firms requires an enormous capital structure so as to accomplish its essential goals. Then again, independent venture undertakings are considered to require little money related and capital structure as the premise of achieving its prime missions (Colombo, Cumming, 2016). Along these lines, the monetary structure is characterized to be the harmony between all the undertaking liabilities and its equities, suggests the utilization of value and liabilities while assessing the bu dgetary situation of the organization, essentially, it includes the values and long haul liabilities of the organization Kangaroo Express Company is one of the organizations which has the capability of turning out to be enormous and huge business organization. The organization is a family claimed business association with solid flood of expanding in its sizes by executing the generous monetary and capital measure which will require the coordinated effort between the top administration and the partners (Crosby, 2015). The top administration should assume their job by exhorting the investors on the elective methods of financing the organization so as to expand its capital structure. Savvy renting Kangaroo Express Company capital structure is very much decided, the organization is appreciated to have an enormous level of benefits, and 60% of the organization capital is non-current notes. Savvy renting involves renting out the organization properties to be utilized by other working organizations. The renting rate is viewed as high contrasted with credits rates which are offered by the financial foundation. Be that as it may, dangers limit the activities of the organization corresponding to the renting procedure (Henderson, Peirson, Herbohn, and Howieson, 2015). Decrease as an end-result of value holders is one of the related dangers which may influence the activity of the organization. Heavenly attendant value Heavenly attendant value is characterized to be the procedure which the administration of a business element permits financial specialists to put into their organization by offering a decent measure of cash. It is extraordinary compared to other financing estimates which the organization needs to embrace so as to get more benefits just as expanding its capital structure and size (OFallon, and Butterfield, 2005). Kangaroo Express Company ought to receive the blessed messenger value which offers adaptable business understanding between the financial specialists and investors. Therefore, blessed messenger value may likewise not be considered as an elective financing approach since a portion of the contributing exercises might be expensive and well as different speculators getting questionable about the organization. Home value advances Home value advances is an elective strategy for expanding the funding to the organization, home value credits permits the organization to get to back from the value they have worked in their home (Peirson, Brown, Easton, and Howard, 2014). One of the benefits of home value advance decreases the organization liabilities and along these lines expands it benefit making. Installment default is one of the essential dangers related with home value credits. Issue 3 Job of morals in administrative bookkeeping Business morals are characterized to be set of standards which oversee the conduct of the organization as far as its administration, it oversees the ethical parts of the business association. Morals in business applies the general parts of business leads just as its pertinence in directing the whole business venture (Colombo, Cumming, 2016). Dynamic in bookkeeping requires the vitality of grasping the critical morals which will be utilized as the reason for building up an aggregate dynamic procedure. The job of morals in administrative bookkeeping is utilized in deciding the business monetary activities and accordingly turning into the relevant viewpoint in achieving the association objectives and targets (Ferrell, O.C., and Fraedrich, J., 2015). Misguided judgments Misguided judgments is characterized to be the procedure making a sentiment which isn't predictable on account of misconception. Morals according to administrative bookkeeping infers how the money related branch of an association can deal with exploitative issues which may emerge as a subsequent misconception (Harrison, and Van der Laan Smith, 2015). The administrative bookkeepers need to work as per the legitimate methodology just as the budgetary administration structures which permit the organization to accomplish its key objectives and goals. Capacity Administrative bookkeeping morals assumes a prime job in guaranteeing that all person who are include in gathering bookkeeping information plays out their capacity in agreement to the ethical norms of the organization . Monetary departmental representatives who neglect to report data or then again utilize the interior money related data of the organization for individual addition can make genuine lawful circumstances for organizations (Harrison, and Van der Laan Smith, 2015). Organization partners and investors frequently require the information and data, regardless of whether which is certain of negative so as to get the important outcome while settling on money related administrative choices. Notwithstanding, the administrative bookkeeping guarantees that all the representative who works in the organization are trusted with a delicate business data (Ferrell, O.C., and Fraedrich, J., 2015). Organ Sales Essay Example For Students

Organ Sales Essay Since 1984, the purchasing and selling of human organs has been unlawful in the United States. This disallowance on organ markets is disputable. Later on it may not be the issue that it is today a direct result of advances in the field of medication. Sadly, at the present time there is an expanding shortage of organs, and the sitting tight records for livers, hearts, and other such organs get longer ordinary. Individuals are kicking the bucket from this law, a year ago, 4,855 individuals passed on hanging tight for organ transplants in the United States (Waiting For a Chance to Live). To cure this issue, the Federal government should revoke the denial on the offer of human organs; they should keep close tabs and force guidelines so as to keep the market reasonable. This conservative and moral issue is one in which government impedance would profit the people in question. On the off chance that individuals do really claim a certain something, it is our own bodies, and we ought to have the option to do with them however we see fit. Its legitimate to sell your hair or conceptive materials, yet by one way or another lawmakers have gone to the choice that the offer of a kidney is not quite the same as a lady selling a grasp of her eggs. Clinical think-tanks can make immense benefits off of items that originate from DNA or cells taken without assent. Regardless of the numerous moral worries that a few people may have, in a free nation we ought to have the benefit in any capacity we can inasmuch as it doesnt hurt others. Any living individual ought to have the option to sell their organs, yet just to the legislatures, as certain specialists in the field of transplants have proposed. The legislature could then scatter the organs as they saw fit, to the most broken down people first. There ought to likewise be severe guidelines on the state of the organs being sold, in order to stay away from a convergence of terrible organs into the market from individuals who are edgy for cash. Blood donation centers had a quality issue until they changed to a carefully willful premise, yet that is the framework which organ banks use now, and it is clearly pitifully lacking. There are essentially too scarcely any individuals ready to give their organs. Brian Nottage says of the hang tight for kidneys, If permitted to exchange uninhibitedly, a balance amount that is higher than this sum would definitely result, taking out a large portion of the deficiency and holding up time. His numbers show that a $20,000 increment in the cost for a kidney would bring around a half higher gift rate. He likewise says that the deadweight loss of government assistance ?could be as high as $100 million. Body organs ought to be viewed as reasonable game also. Some unmistakable individuals in the clinical and moral networks have propelled the possibility that except if in any case indicated, assent for gift ought to be accepted. This is additionally how some European countries have come to manage the ever-developing issue. Upgrades during the previous decade in the wellbeing and viability of liver, heart, and kidney transplants initiated a quick development in the interest for organs, which now far surpasses gracefully. (How Uncle Sam Could Ease the Organ Shortage) This shows how the interest for organs is versatile. The gracefully of organs is flexible also, however with no new motivating forces to give or the option to sell organs, the flexibly has leveled off, leaving an expanding measure of individuals on holding up records. Presently, while government obstruction in exchange is normally a terrible thing, it would for this situation help to guarantee that everybody needing a trans plant got one. There are accounts of well off outsiders coming to American centers and utilizing cash to hop the holding up records and get transplants while less fortunate individuals abandon the kidneys or livers they need. Since a coupling value roof would cause a deficiency, the legislature should let the market locate its own balance. But since this could possibly leave individuals without the way to buy one all alone for the dogs, the administration could enable less fortunate patients to out monetarily in some way. The benefits of an annulment on the forbiddance would be that a huge number of individuals who in any case would have kicked the bucket while hanging tight for an organ transplant would live, and others can have a smidgen of additional cash just as the information that they helped somebody live. There are a lot of anecdotes about organ hoodlums, in light of the fact that it is stated, that if any market is illicit, there will be an underground market for it. Sancti oning organ deals would clear out any opportunity of this event whatsoever, fantastical all things considered. On the off chance that the market for organs was legitimized, it would at first raise the cost of organs. In any case, as an ever increasing number of transplants were performed on the grounds that gracefully was satisfying need, or if nothing else coming nearer, the activities would turn out to be substantially more everyday practice, and the cost would fall as this occurred, which would make it progressively reasonable for everybody. The issue of grievance handling has not been new in organizations and it has been one of the most persistent problems of all times. In the course of running an organization, there are many complaints that are handled daily by the management which constitute the process of grievance handling. Grievances are common not only in organization but also in our social life. However it has been shown that the nature of the grievances is not that important than the process that is used to handle the grievances. Before we look at the process of handling a grievance in an organization, let us look use first understand the nature of a grievance. What is a grievance? (Dentron and Boyd 2005, p. 61) A grievance can be defined as any complaint that is raised by an individual worker of a group of workers in an organization. A grievance is usually raised in allegation of violation of the terms of agreement in the workplace. Therefore it can be said to a complaint that is raised and which is aimed at expressing the dissatisfaction of the employees by what is happening in the organization. A grievance however differs from a complaint in that while a complaint can be verbally expressed, a grievance is usually stated in writing. A grievance can be caused by many things. It has been shown that some of the most controversial issues which usually ends up in a grievance include the discharge of employees from their workplace, lack of a process of collective bargaining for the employees which can be used to express their dissatisfaction, unfair labor practices, and others which are likely to happening in the work places. (Rahul 2005, p. 31) Therefore we can expound on this point by looking closely at the process which is usually used to handle these complaints. For the effective functioning of an organization, there is usually a need to look at the welfare of the employee. Any management will recognize that the employees are the most important asset that an organization holds and therefore the most important thing in the management of the resources of an organization will be first to look at the welfare of the workforces. It has been shown that most of the grievances which hare not well looked at often precipitate to a form of dissident by the workforce which in most case comes as strike. A strike in an organization will not only have economic effect on the organization but it will also have effects on the image of the management of the organization. Therefore many organizations have come up with an effective procedure that can be used to handle complaints of het employees. In order to ensure that there is less participant of the workforce in mass movement of labor unions, many organization came up with human resource departments which are well positioned to handle the complains of the employees. Therefore it is the duty of the human resource department to come up with a well structured way that can be used to look at the welfare of the workforce. The human resource department is the one which is entrusted with the duty of handling all the complaints regarding the employees. Human resource department must come up with a grievance handling procedure. (Finegan 2004, p. 71) A grievance handling produced clearly defines a process which is used by the organization to look at the complaints that has been given by the employees. It presents a process of initial resolving of the complaints through arbitration. It is a process that is used to indentify and resolve the companies in a timely manner in order to promoted the prevail a constructive discussion between the management and the representatives of the employees. therefore the aim of the grievance procedure is to ensure that there is a proper mechanism in place that is used by the management to look at the issues that pertains to employees in order to ensure that there is constructive resolving of the complains at they arises. (Dana 2001, p. 231) The hospitality industry has been one of the rapidly growing industries in the world. In a short period of time, the industry has grown short of its former self. In the last few decades there has been increased travelling by people all over the world. This has been enabled by the increasing wave of globalization which has opened the world and increased the interaction between people. As a result individuals have been able to travel from one corners of the world to the other with no political or legal limitation. The improve modes of transport has been the main factor that has contributed to the rapid growth of the industry. The industry has been one of the most important industries in the world that have been supporting the increased globalization and polarization of world culture. Therefore there has been unprecedented growth of the industry in a very short period of time. The industry has been offering supportive services in the tourism sector. Apparently tourism has emerged to be one of the most important industries in the world. It has been fueled by increased spending culture in the world and increased openness. Tourism has taken many dimensions in its growth in areas of cultural tourism, business tourism, leisure tourism, education tourism, medical tourism, and other areas. In all these segments, individual usually travels away from their homes to go to foreign countries. Therefore they need to be accommodated and given other services. In this regard the hospitality industry comes in hand as it offers them support in accommodation and other necessary services. The hospitality industry has therefore hinged its growth on the tourism sector. (Leornard 2001, p. 52) One of the emerging natures of the hospitality industry has been diversity that has been experienced in the customers that the industry target and also in the workforce. There has been an increasing trend in the industry towards culture convergence in which one hospitality facility in the world is serving people of diverse culture. Therefore there has been an aspect of standardization of culture in the industry. Cultural homogeneity is considered to be one of the competitive factors that need to achieve in order to survive in the competitive market. With the market become more diverse due to divers needs of the customers, the hotel industry have therefore tended to have a divers nature of employees in order to help their customers to feel at home every time they are being served. Therefore there has been an increasing trend of multicultural workforce in the industry. This of course has come with its own challenges to human resource management. One of the most challenges that faces any human resource management is a multicultural workforce is the way to handle complains by the employees. Many a times, employees feel that their welfare is not looked at as needed in the organization and there are usually incidences of unfair treatment of the employees. But due to the diverse nature of the employees, the human resource department may not be in a position to come up with standardized way of dealing with all the demands that employees have. Therefore there are incidence of complaints that are based on the favors in the workforce and discontent in the allocation of duties. Many of het case studies that have been presented about complain in the hospitality industry have all been based on issue of favors in the workforce which arise due to the diversity in the workforce. Therefore in the contemporary human resource management issues, diversity in the workforce in the hospitality industry have been one of the causes of complains in the workforce. The hospitality industry is one of the most hectic industries as visitors check in and checks out. As a result there is a lot of work that needs to be done by the workforce. The nature of services in the industry is based on the fact that the visitors have to feel as comfortable as they want and find value for the amount of money that they are charged. Therefore there has to be a lot of work that is done by the employees in order to meet the demands of the visitors. Some of the visitors can be a little nagging and may require excessive attention than others. Going by the nature of definition of the duties the employee have to perform some employee will always find themselves doing extra work that they have not bee assigned at the time they were hired. Therefore there is usually a conflict with their supervisors who have to make sure that the guest gets all what they want and therefore will have to assign extra duty to the employees. At the end to the day employees will feel that they have done more that they are supposed to do in their duties. This has been shown to be another source of complains from the employees who feels that they are unfair treated and their initial duty assignment is not respected. (Andrew Kurth LLP, 2008) In most cases supervisors are faced with a hard task of ensuring that employee perform all the duties that they have been assigned to and also perform the extra duties that the guests wants to be attendee to. Therefore there is a situation between the supervisors and the employees. The hospitality industry peaks with seasons. This means that there are periods when there will be an inflow of guest while there are other seasons when there will be less guest checking in. In there regard there is a fluctuating need of employees in the industry. When the season peaks, the industry will need to hire more employees and when the season is low the industry will need to lay off some of the employees. In this regard the tourism industry is most affected by the seasonality. Most of the hotels which operation in leisure industries will find the there are periods when there will be more guest especially during holidays and weekend while there are other when there will be less guest. The industry is also prone to political stability and other factors and therefore the times when there is a serene atmosphere will see an inflow of guest while the times when there is political turmoil there will be less guests who will be checking in. As a result the industry is force to keep on hiring and lying off some of the workers. It has continuously become difficult for the industry to hire more employees on permanent bases due to the fact that there are period when the industry will need more workers while the off seasons will need less workers. Therefore there is a factor of the way in which employees are hired and retained in the industry. This has been one of the most contentious issues especially when it come to the labor unions which have been arguing that there is need for the industry to hire employee on permanent bases. There are a times when the industry is forced to lay off the employee unexpected due to the prevailing circumstance. For example in Kenya which is one of the famed tourism destinations in Africa, the last year skirmishes had a negative effect in the industry. It is recorded that though it was the high season when the tourism and hospitality industry expected a great inflow of guest, more than 10,000 employees were laid off. This was due to massive cancellation of bookings that had been done. The industry has apparently hired more workers in anticipation for the high season that had just started to pick up. There has been a conflicting situation in the industry as the employee who had been hired on contracted bases want to be paid all the money as their contract had defend while the industry is trying to recover from a massive losses incurred due to the massive cancellation. The hospitality industry has also been shown as one of the industry which pays the workers low salaries. This has been caused by the fact that the industry sometime will need to hire more employees and other times it will have to lay off some the employees. Due to the fact that the industry goes on of very lean seasons when it has to maintain its operation, there have been incidence of some players in the industry paying their employee very low salaries in a bid to cover the expense in the low season. Therefore there have been conflicts between the workforce and the management on the issue of salaries. This is one of the most conflicting issues that have led to formation of labor unions in the industry. Most of the operators in the industry agree with the fact that the industry pays less money to its employees especially during the low seasons but they try to equate that with the operation of het industry during that period. It has been shown that although the industry has been growing at a high rate, there have been fewer incidences of increased salaries for the workforce even at times when the industry is performing well. There has also been incidence of customer complain in the industry. It has been shown that in most cases customer have been complains about the quality of service that they receive from particular employees in the industry and also from the facility in general. This has been a difficult situation for the human resource department especially since it has to ascertain the nature of the conflict between the employee and the guest. In most case the guest may have rubbed the employee on the wrong side and therefore there must be a way of asserting the truth before punishing the employee. Though the issue of customer complains has been shown to be a responsibility attached to the customer service department, at the end of the day it ends up as a management issue that has to be resolved. Both hotel and hospitality industries fall under any industry in the country. Therefore they are exposed to the same labor laws like any other industry. However the nature of employee relation in the industry has been changing due to some of the factors that have been shown. Although there has been increasing labor unionization of the industry there has also some legal aspects that have been protecting the employees in the industry. One of the laws that protect employee in the industry has been the National Labor Relation Act which are aimed at redressing complain of any employees that has been unlawfully discharged from their duties. Through the law the employee is able to seek redress in the law court. However there has been conflicting situation when it comes to address this issue and when it comes to the application of the law. This is because every time an employee is dismissed from their duties for a genuine reason, they run to the court to place complains and what follows is an argument about the rights of het employees. Although the employer has the responsibility of recognize the rightist of the employee, there has been the question of the responsibility of the employee especially when it comes to the nature of the operation of the industry. Being in an industry that calls for meticulous performance of duties in order to ensure the satisfaction of the employee, there has been incidence where the employee have been dismissed on the ground of misbehaving with the guest or failing to perform their duties and what follows is a lawsuits for the company. (Mitchell, 2007) There has been increasing misinterpretation of the National Labor Relation Act when it comes to the employees working in the hospitality industry. There has been a need to becoming familiar with the law and its interpretations. There has been misinterpretation of the act when it comes to the employers also. It has been shown that there are many incidences when the employers back off from their earlier salary agreement and fire off employee who complains. But the law has shown the act is inclusive even of the employee who works in the hospitality industry who are likely to work for part time bases. Holiday Inn has been one of the most prosperous hotels that have become major player in the hospitality and tourism industry. It has been able to spread its wings all over the world and has grown to be a multinational in a very short period. It has positioned itself in all the corners of the world which have tourism potential and therefore it has a world wide presence. Like any other play in the industry, the hotel has been receiving a number of complains from the customers as well as from the workers themselves. Since the hotel has been relying on tourism activities in its overseas operation, the hotel has been experience same problems as we have mentioned above which are all hinged on the satisfaction of the employee and on other factors. But is has successfully put in place a mechanism that is used to handle all these complains. It has been dealing with a range of complains about its employees and at the same time there have been complains from the employees on the way they are beign treated. (Dilts 2006, p. 34) In order to handle all these complains, the hotel first steps which were aimed at streamlining it relationship with the employees was the formation of the human resource department which was supposed to look at the welfare of the employees. The human resource department was apparently responsible for looking at the welfare of the employee and also it was to handle complains from the employee. Therefore it was given the authority to deal with issue of hiring and firing of the employees. In areas where the hotel has been hiring seasonal workforce, it has been putting the employee on a contractual agreement where they are supposed to be paid according to there performance and not on the bases that eh were hired. This has been made in order to avoid many complains that come from the workforce once they are dismissed from their employee when the low seasons comes. The hotel has also made sure that it has put in place a board that is supposed to scrutinize all the complains that are received from the employees so that it can look into the way of making sure that they are well addressed. The board or the arbitration body is supposed to work in close conjunction with the human resource department to make sure that there is a well defined procedure that is followed while dealing with the complains. Therefore there have been systematic efforts by the hotel that has been aimed at reducing the level of complains with the workforce. These efforts have also been aimed at ensuring that all the employees are handled as equal and that complains are dealt with as a matter of urgency. From time to time there will be complains from the workforce. These complains are most of the time genuine and they indicates that there is a problem that need to be fixed somewhere in the work process. The human resource department that has been given the mandate of dealing with the issue of these conflicts understands that employees are the most important treasure that ht organization holds. It has to deal with the employee well, so that it will gain a competitive edge in the market. Therefore it is good for the management to come up with proper way of dealing with these complains in order to avert further action from the employee. Most of the time if these complain is not dealt with they are likely to precipitate to strikes which will have a negative effect on the productivity of the industry and also on the image of he industry. The tourism and hospitality industry has been one of the industries that have been suffering major grievances from employee due to issues of off and on season employment and low payment. There have been major labor action in the industry which has been caused by these complain that has been expressed by the workforce. Therefore there is need for the players in the industry to handle some of these complains well and take the example of Holiday Inn which has come with effective mechanisms that are meat to deal with the problem firmly. Articles of Confederation vs Constitution - 1422 Words

Mallory Pineda AE 1 The Articles of Confederation and United States Constitution are two documents that shaped the U.S. government into what it is today. The Articles of Confederation (AOC) was the first Constitution of the United States. Americans soon realized that this document had to be substantially modified because the U.S. needed a stronger government. The AOC was thought of as an ineffective national government document, although there were some strong points. The AOC was ratified in 1781, and replaced by an improved document known as the United States Constitution in 1789. The Large State Plan gave the national government the power to legislate, and gave a proposed national Council of Revision a veto power over state legislatures. The delegates loved the sound of this fundamental reform plan. The Virginia Plan struck opposition among delegates from the smaller states and thus a competing plan, presented by William Patterson, known as the New Jersey Plan, or Small State Plan, came into action. This plan kept federal powers rather limited and created no new Congress. Instead, the plan enlarged some of the supremacies then held by the Continental Congress. It also called for a plural executive branch and a federal court system like the Virginia Plan. This plan was not as highly sought out as the Virginia Plan, so in turn was rejected which caused the supporters of the Virginia Plan to make amends to the smaller states. This in turn resulted in members of the Senate being elected by the state legislatures. Top Designers 1950!! Essay Example

Top Designers 1950!! Essay Responsible for dramatically changing the style of the 1950s, Dior created the new look which used lots of fabric and exaggerated the hourglass shape of the female figure. The new look was in direct contrast to the frugal and plain styles during the war, but women and the fashion industry embraced the move back to glamour. In 1955 Yves Saint Laurent joins Dior as a design assistant. In the same year Dior launches cosmetic range. He was a mainstream Haute Couture designer in France. The H-line of 1954 was a slender tunic suit with a slim skirt that later became more of a dropped waist tubular twenties style dress with a hemline that was creeping upwards. This would become a classic 1950s fashion garment. -Y line dress A line dress H line dress Cristà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½bal Balenciaga We will write a custom essay sample on Top Designers 1950!! specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Top Designers 1950!! specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Top Designers 1950!! specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Though finding glamour and drama as important as Dior, Balenciaga went in the opposite direction in his silhouettes, making them sleeker and broadening the shoulders and removing emphasis on the waist. This shape gave way to the sack dresses and tunics that became popular in the next decade. Pierre Balmain Balmains focused on femininity and elegance, creating the quintessential French style of the 1950s. Charles James James was most well known for his spectacular gowns, which were often copied for prom and evening wear, and featured intricate constructions and unique color combinations. Jaques Fath Fath had a less severe take on the new look, with softer hourglass curves and plunging necklines. His designs showed more skin than his contemporaries making him a favorite of the younger and more daring. Anne Fogarty- Leading designer of petticoats and poodle skirts. She wrote a book for housewives on how to look good while they worked. She designed the bikini in the 60s. Chanel re-opened her fashion house in 1954 and began her designs with a boxy suit jacket and skirts in nubbly tweed. She used richly textured wool slub fabrics sometimes designed by the textile artist Bernat Klein. The silhouette was straight down and clinched in the waist, before veering out again. The were beautifully lined with silk and other such materials. The were weighted along the facing join and inside join with gilt chains. the style has frequently been revived over the seasons and in particular a collarless style of coat and jacket she popularised, is now called the Chanel line. It was accessorised with delicate pieces such as string pearls and chain necklaces. In Britain, Haute Couture models began to be licensed to companies like Wallis and soon provided a useful source of income. Macys of New York paid huge sums of money for an individual Toile, a linen or calico copy of the designer model garment. Every piece of information they needed to make the garment as a near copy would be provided. Details of trimmings, buttons, fasteners etc were all part of the price paid. With thousands of copies constructed, Macys could afford to sell a dress worth $1000 for $100. If they sold a superior more exact version as a limited copy, they could sell it as a designer original and reap the reward of a higher designer price. International breakthroughs of the 50s 1. Chanels introduction of Chemise. 2. The Beatnik style of leotards and form-fitting pants topped with oversized shirts rivaled the petticoats and poodle skirts for favourite style of the day. 3. Leather jackets became a favourite of the cool crowd after seeing Elvis sport one on television. 4. The strapless dress with the fullest skirts attainable became a favourite for evening wear. Most materials were for export only in the 50s due to lack of money post war time. 1951 was the release of materials and patterns classed as luxury items as they were in colours, styles and fabrics mostly never seen before. (The Festival Of Britain Exhibition of 1951 held at the South Bank on the River Thames in London produced over 6000 products many of them clothing, accessories and dress fabrics.) The government took away access to materials from the british public to rebuild the economy and quietly traded abroad. Marks and Spencers takes off Classed as best ready to wear chain, and affordable, Marks and Spencers quadrupled profits in the 50s. The Quality became so high they had to limit production as everyone wanted the affordable stylish Paris inspired 1950s glamour. Late fifties launch (M;S) In the late fifties a popular style was the knitted sweater dress, with crew, shirt tab front or cowl necks and made from Orlon or Lambswool. As there was no central heating at this point of time, knitted dresss were worn in winter, and most women wore their girdles and long line bras underneath to cover the thighs. Petticoats and Paper Nylon. Full skirts needed an underneath support to look good and nylon was used extensively to create bouffant net petticoats or paper nylon petticoats. It was to make the sizing and style just right. The petticoats progressed extensively, changing from a gentle swish to a round bouffant. Each petticoat was parshly stiff, to keep the layers up and flamboyant (boning). Then another net petticoat was placed over the stiffened one to make it less rigid. Dior influence on Quant Mary Quant was heavily influenced by Diors loose fitting and freer styles of the 50s Empire line Introduced in 1958, this classic neckline was favoured by teenagers, hence the name baby doll. It was classed as rebellious, the complete opposite of what childrens mothers were wearing at the time. Introduction of synthetic fabrics. Garments in the 50s were revolutionised by new materials. In the 50s most synthetic fibres were obtained from petrochemicals. They were promoted for their easy care wash and wear qualities, which was of interest since most clothes were dripped dried and hand washed in this time. After being introduced, these materials were soon affordable. America had easier access to man made fabrics than the UK and most synthetic fabrics were received in parcels via american pen pals. Crimplene enabled everyone to wear white and pastel colours because they could be washed easily as polyester does not yellow like white nylon does with age and sunlight. The fabric also tailored well and could be made into button front, double breasted, wide collar dresses and retain a crisp appearance through washing. Nylon, Polyester and Acrylic were the most popular new materials The Trapeze dress The trapeze dress was a swinging dress almost triangular in shape and designed to be worn with low shoes and bouffant hairstyles. The Sack dress Hubert Givenchy designed a Paris collection dress in 1957 called the sack and it started the trend for straighter waist less shift dresses. First it developed into the fitted darted sheath dress and later into the loose straight short shift dress. By 1958 the style really began to catch on. Quant modified this in the sixties to her taste. Alternative slim silhouette Made from hard wearing materials such as wool and suit materials, the slim line silhouette opposed the full skirts. The new synthetic materials were ideal. often had a large white organdie collar and cuffs with a bias bound edge that could be detached and washed, then sewn back into position. Such cuffs were called French cuffs. Coat by Jacques Fath Another influential fashion silhouette of the period was that of the late 1940s swing coat by Jacques Fath, which was a great shape to cover up full skirts and an ideal silhouette for the post war high pregnancy rate. This style was also often made as a loose full tent line duster coat, but often without the double breasted feature and buttons shown here. Stockings Seamless stocking were introduced 1952 The Second World War left women craving for glamour, style and swathes of fabric where scraps of material had once existed. Diors full skirted and waisted designs fulfilled all the early dreams of the feminine woman in the early 50s. As a new, more liberated society evolved, women moved toward freer more relaxed clothes and began the move away from the dress rules and associated formality of decades.

Definition and Examples of Putative Should in English

Definition and Examples of Putative 'Should' in English In English grammar, putative should is the use of the word should in contexts that indicate surprise or disbelief, or that refer to the occurrence (or possible occurrence) of some situation or event. This usage differs from the should of obligation (i.e., the mandative should). As noted by Randolph Quirk et al., putative should (also called emotional should) occurs in that clauses after expressions of emotion (sorrow, joy, displeasure, surprise, wonder, etc.), and is often accompanied by intensifying expressions such as so, such, like this/that, ever, or at all (A Comprehensive Grammar, 1985). In addition, putative should  occurs in subordinate clauses as an alternative to the subjunctive after expressions of suggesting, advising, etc.: They insisted that I (should) stay the whole week (Oxford Dictionary of English Grammar, 1994). Putative should is more common in British English than in American English. Also Known  As:  emotional  should, attitudinal  should, hypothetical  should, subjunctive  should Examples Major Green gently nodded and then briefly glanced through the same porthole, behind which the Earth lay static and diminutive, no bigger than an average football. The oddest thing for me is that people should be living there at all! he exclaimed on a softly humorous note. (John OLoughlin, Millennial Projections, 1983)It is surprising that you should find this practice shocking, since you French cut off the heads of your King and Queen. (Rebecca West, Black Lamb and Grey Falcon: A Journey Through Yugoslavia, 1941)I know its a little strange, a little bit of a contradiction, that a far-seeing place should also be a basement place, but thats how it is with me. (Stephen King, Stephen King, On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft. Scribner, 2000)It seems a great shame you should have to pay for what Albert and Clara did. (Arnold Bennett, These Twain, 1915)It is sad that you should talk such nonsense, and sadder that I should have to listen.(Ferdinand Canning Scott Schiller, Studies in Humanism , 1912) Peter Walsh, who had done just respectably, filled the usual posts adequately, was liked, but thought a little cranky, gave himself airs- it was odd that he should have had, especially now that his hair was grey, a contented look; a look of having reserves. (Virginia Woolf, Mrs. Dalloway, 1925) Adjectives With Putative Should The adjectives anxious, eager, and willing are followed by a thats are appropriate, essential, important, vital. Adjectives which can be followed by a verb phrase in the thats are afraid, angry, hopeful, inconceivable, odd, sad, sorry, surprised, surprising. (Ilka Mindt, Adjective Complementation: An Empirical Analysis of Adjectives Followed by That-Clauses. John Benjamins, 2011) Factual Should In most of its uses, should is to be found in contexts which are either counterfactual (as in You should be in your office at this time of day, which presupposes ...but you are not in your office) or tentative (as in You should give up smoking, which contains a presupposition approximately paraphrasable as ...but Im not sure you will give up smoking). In some cases, however, should is used in contexts which- at least apparently- contain no negative implication. These contexts, which may be called factual, seem to contradict the hypothesis that -ed always expresses a presupposition of unreality. (Most factual uses of should concern what is often called putative should- see, for instance, Quirk et al...The coincidence of the two categories, however, is only partial.) (Paul Larreya, Irrealis, Past Time Reference and Modality. Modality in Contemporary English, ed. by Roberta Facchinetti, Manfred G. Krug, and Frank Robert Palmer. Walter de Gruyter, 2003) Jespersen on Emotional Should We may use the term emotional should for the use of should in passing a judgment of an emotional character (agreeable or disagreeable surprise, indignation, joy) on some occurrence which may, or may not, be a fact. A sentence like Why was the date omitted? is a mere factual question, but Why should the date of the document be omitted? implies wonder and, possibly, some suspicion of the purity of the motives. Compare further: Where the divell should he learne our language? (Sh.). Why should they try to influence him? [I see no reason] Someone asking for you. Who should ask for me? Similarly, these examples show use in clauses: It is not good that the man should be alone (AV). It was quite natural that the Russians should hate their oppressors. Why should she have done so, I can hardly tell. It is strange that she married (or has married) such an old man merely states the fact; It is strange that she should have married such an old man lays more stress on the strangeness by using the imaginative should in the clause. Frederick Winslow Taylors Life. Scientific management theory Research Paper

Frederick Winslow Taylors Life. Scientific management theory - Research Paper Example It is important to posit elucidate the fact that much of the explanations and resolutions he developed were founded on his personal understanding, knowledge, and practice. At his prime, he joined the working class as a worker on the floor of a factor and gradually climbed the ranks to become an executive. Other than describing the life of Taylor, this paper described scientific management theory, experiments conducted by Taylor, and the applications of his theories in the modern word. Available sources assert that Taylor started his work life as a trainee in the field of engineering. Subsequently, he jumped ship and joined Midvale steel company as a mere worker and eventually became a supervisor. In his escapade in this steel company, he came up with his theory of scientific management. Later in his working life, he joined Bethlehem steel company and it was at this company where he merged all his thoughts and suggestions and later carried out a number of tests and trials on his thoughts aimed at enhancing efficiency and output in employment. He is credited for ensuring that his thoughts, suggestions, tests, and trials are passed on to the next generation. In doing so, he put down his thoughts and tests into writing in the year 1911. A combination of all his contributions were printed and made public (Cole 16). Scientific management theory Towards the end of the nineteenth century, many factory executives and owners believed that competence and effectiveness of the techniques or processes of performance was a topic of major concern. Suddenly, there was a flood of labor associated with the establishment of novel factories and other companies. Company executives were therefore faced with a lot of difficulties in systematically putting these essentials into order. This, combined with his infatuation with competence of working techniques is the origin of Taylor’s theory on scientific management. In the course of his studies, he comprehended the fact that the solution and explanation to these predicaments rested on methodical scrutiny and investigation of labor (Taylor 22). According to Cole, through practice, he had gained familiarity on the fact that a very low percentage of employees incorporated substantial exertion in their day to day duties. This propensity was illustrate and depicted by Taylor as soldiering. Soldiering was subsequently categorized into natural and systematic soldiering. According to Taylor, natural soldiering is refe rred to as the innate propensity of effortlessness depicted by human beings. Systematic soldiering on the other hand is referred to as an intentional and systematic constraint or limitation of the speed or pace of conducting various duties and activities portrayed by workers. He asserted that soldering resulted from workers’ dread of joblessness, variations in stipends, and the violent and handy advances introduced by the management (16). During this period, techniques and ways of conducting activities and duties were the enterprise of the employees whereby they were allowed to plan and program their duties. According to Taylor’s proposition in his theory, this should be the work of individuals in management positions. In support of his proposition, he argued that employees favored working conditions whereby they are bestowed with specific duties with precise principles. He elucidated the importance of disconnecting preparation, development, and scheduling of operation s with the work itself. The theory of scientific management also postulates that ongoing and continuing decline on the level of skills within the workplace is goes together with growing and increasing

THE VARIOUS TYPES OF SPREADSHEET PROGRAMS Essay

THE VARIOUS TYPES OF SPREADSHEET PROGRAMS - Essay Example The success or failure of a business institution depends solely on the way it handles accounting. Accounting systems are responsible for analyzing and monitoring the financial condition of companies, preparation of documents necessary for tax purposes, providing information support to many other organizational functions, and so on. The origin of spreadsheets is primarily in the context of accounting applications having major uses with cashflow analysis, budgeting and planning. Its origins began primarily in the context of accountancy applications, which to this day still represent one of the spreadsheets major uses with cashflow analysis, budgeting and planning typical of such applications. Indeed, despite its versatility and use across a range of academic disciplines, the spreadsheet is largely viewed as a business tool with applications covering general administration, sales and marketing, manpower analysis, resource allocation, operational analysis and strategic planning, to name a few [2]. The spreadsheets are used both by highly skilled specialists to generate complex business reports as well as by beginners for routine low-level applications who are unaware of the real potential of spreadsheets. Earlier research by Pemberton and Robson (1995) concluded that, while the spreadsheet has become a natural feature of the business landscape, extent of usage is only one, albeit limited, performance measure with which to illustrate spreadsheet proliferation in business. In many cases, claims of expertise revolve around only the simplest of features, often at the lower end of the skills hierarchy [3]. Evolution of spreadsheets: Spreadsheets came into market in 1979 with the introduction of VisiCalc, the software allowing personal computer users the flexibility to perform simple operations without recourse to a mainframe computer. However, the specific term â€Å"spreadsheet† dates back with its earliest

Good Education vs. Bad Education Essay Example for Free

Good Education vs. Bad Education Essay Persuasive Research Paper By; Karen Elzy Date: July 25, 2010 Course: COM 220 Teacher: Sherry Ann Smith Good Education vs. Bad Education Does one think he or she can get very far without having a great education? Statistics shows that people with a great education are much more successful than those who do not receive a great education. Many people who graduate from high school and college are guaranteed to get a better job and higher position than those who have never finish their high school or college education. There are some teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and many other higher educated people who have succeeded with farther education than people who wish not to succeed and not get an education. Good education is better than bad education because the outcome will be much greater with a good education than with a bad one. Nelson Mandela stated that, â€Å"Education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world. † This is true. Every human should want to be educated, because the world is full of technology which influences our world greatly. People who are not educated enough will surely be uniformed and left behind in today’s society. Technology is in business officers, schools, hospitals, doctor offices, stores, homes, and many other places. Today, the school systems start off with teaching the students how to use computers in kindergarten. The students are using this knowledge that they have learned from school and relating it to their parents. Parents should keep their children in school so they can learn everything which being taught by the instructor, and by doing this, the outcome will be rewarding. Teachers are a gift to students and parents because they are teaching the students everything that there is to learn about education. Without teachers, students will not learn the knowledge they need to succeed in this world without a good education. Many surveys show that a good teacher from the 1920-1980’s are more experienced in age in teaching than those teachers who are fresh out of college. Older teachers have more experience and knowledge in child development than college teacher who just beginning and this really matters. Many new teachers cannot explain problems to their students when they write it on the broad. This is what I call bad education, because the student cannot figure the problem out either. When students are failing because of these situations this is when the teacher should call the parent in to see if they could work out a way to help solve this problem together. Many teachers today are not concern about the outcome of their students, so it is very important for the parent keep in contact with that teacher and their child grades. This is when bad education is a part of the student and the teacher who is teaching. Many student drops out of school because of lack of consistency they receive. Having a good education will ensure one to have a better job than anyone who does not have an education. By continuing one’s education and getting a college degree, applying for major jobs will not be such a hassle. The reason being is because most companies directly look at the education section of an application or resume. The perks with having a good job will be such as: paid vacations, top salaries, 401k, good insurance packages, and many others. Many people may start out in a great established company and learn everything about it; then continue or progress their own business and become more successful than that previous business. Having knowledge causes all these successes. How can one have a good job without learning skills from education? Many jobs are skilled and furthering education will help with a much more skilled jobs or profession. Encouraging education by talking to the students will bring love, wealth, values, and family respect. When students feel they do not have any encouragement they will drop out of school, some will go to jail, depression, drug abuse, and steal: the results of this are a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Going to school is not just about being there physically. It is important to pay really close attention to what the instructor is teaching. Clowning around would be a very horrible idea. This can cause one to miss important information for one’s future workplace. Employers will not take him or her seriously if they look at one’s transcript and thinks they have goofed off while in school. They will think that it will be brought to their workplace. Furthermore, paying attention will guarantee one the skills that can help in their future workplace this can help one to advance faster than other employees. This can help one to get a promotion and earn a better pay. Having a bad education will really hurt one. Going to a school in which appropriate information is not taught is not such a good idea. This will cause someone not to find a good job. Employers may think that important skills are lacked of their job. Bad education will definitely not lead to a great place. Poverty will be definitely in question that will cause one’s family to suffer. In question why would one want to suffer do to this bad outcome? The economy today is suffering enough, and education should be ones top priority to help with tomorrow’s economy. The economy is suffering from lack of jobs and has caused many people to become homeless. If some of the people would have finish their education then some of them would not be homeless due to the economy. Many homeless children do not attend school because of their situation. Many kids are being teased by other children because of their homeless situation, this cause a problem in education as well. Homeless kids are rated highly in education than some children who attend daily. Many children miss out on education because of being homeless. Many people were deprived of continuing their education due to lack of funding. Today people are successfully continuing their education because of grants and low interest rates on loans for education. There are people who have not attended school for a long period and due to available funds have returned. The president of the United States of America has helped make this possible for adults and others to go back to school. Many opportunities through programs as these help to better education. If some of these programs were offered earlier maybe most people would have finished school. There are things that can cause bad education. For example, mental and physical abuse can cause one to have a low self esteem about them. If someone were to lose a parent or someone close to them this would cause him or her to avoid school. Many kids bully other kids and cause them to drop out or not wanting to return to school at all. Parents need to pay close attention to his or her children in order to make sure he or she is not facing any of these problems. Many schools pay close attention to children attitudes to see if any changes have occurred. There have been many reports about abuse and kids who suffer in their education because of such reason. There are after school programs to help further children education, and to help working parent who do not have the proper time with helping their children with their homework. These programs are designed to help with homework, study skills, testing, and behavior conduct. There are many dedicated teachers and teacher aides who take the time out to help children advance in his or her education. Many parents are very grateful to these teachers and teacher aides for their time and effort in helping his or her children. Through these programs many children have passed leaped and other important test for school. These children who attend these programs have good study habits and are very dedicated to their learning. The outcome help the children score higher on different test and help them to become honor and respectable. Distinguishing good and bad education is not hard to do. A good education can include a school and/or instructor meeting and talking to their students. A good school and/or instructor will build their student’s confidence to make them feel like learning, participating in classroom activities, and getting to know the students parents. A good education can also include such things as, after school tutoring, respecting and giving respect, and make their students get involved; however, it is not limited to these things. Having a good education guide will make the student understand all material efficiently. For example, the instructor will make sure everything is explained fluently and is understood, their classroom will be in order. They will make sure the material is not boring and make sure their students are alert; they will care and make sure to encourage their students on how important their work is and how far it will take them in life if they complete it and earn their diplomas. A bad education is kicking out a student for asking a question that the instructor may have answered or may have not; patience is very important when it comes to education. If an instructor is rude and unenthusiastic, it can make the student feel as if they need not to complete the course. However, if the instructor stop and help challenge them, the student will look forward to getting their education and make sure to make every class. If an instructor shows that they are only there to get a paycheck, this can more than likely stop the enthusiasm of the student. A bad instructor can indeed make their student feel dumb which can cause a student to be a dropout and end up as a statistic. Remember education is important so the school, instructor, and student shall take it seriously. A good education will help one get a great job that has a good pay and great benefits. The result of a good education can lead to making friends that can be there for a lifetime and a possible business partner. However, if one receives a bad education, if can lead to a road of failure. Bad education will really hurt one in the long run; he or she may not be able to get a good job, a steady job, and may end up living in poverty. Employers may think that one lack some skills and give one a very low position and may be even under paid. The economy will not suffer if everyone would stay in school and receive their education. Thanks to the many opportunities of grants and loans to help further education, it can really make everyone’s future bright. If people would pay close attention to kids they can see if they are facing major problems that are preventing one from their education. After school programs are very helpful in helping students to advance in their studies, and it is also a great tool to their parents as well. In order for one to succeed, one must be in an effective school system with reliable material being taught. One must also have an instructor to encourage them and help out if the understanding is not present. Encouraging education by talking to the students will bring love, wealth, values, and family respect. If the encouragement is not present and/or a bad education would be received by the student which can cause them all kinds of downfalls in the future. Staying in school, being focused and getting their proper education are the goals in being successful. In conclusion, good education is better than a bad education because the outcome is much better and the future will look much better with a good education rather than a bad education. As Nelson Mandela says, â€Å"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world†. Many doctors, lawyers, engineers, writers, public speakers, and even teachers and students have really changed our world today. Education is the key to everyone’s success story. Good Education Vs. REVERSIBLE BONDED STRAIN GAGE :: essays research papers

ABSTRACT For accurately measuring thermal strains, particularly on large structures where welded strain gages cannot be used, a reversible bonded strain gage was developed. Basically it is a special polyimide strain gage which is same on both the base side and cover side so that it can be used both ways. It can be used to measure strains at temperatures under 250oC (482oF) of a structure made of aluminum alloys or composites (to which its difficult to weld a strain gage). These gages can be can be peeled after taking required apparent strain measurements in a furnace and can be attached reverse side up at a required point on a structure. To measure mechanical stresses on structures at high temperatures it is essential to measure apparent thermal stresses accurately in the first place. In practice, several strain gages in a pack are used to obtain calibration data. The apparent strain and gage factor change of all the gages in the pack are assumed to be same which is not so in practice, in spit e of great efforts to reduce scatter of apparent strain. Since reversible strain gages can be reattached to the test structure after taking apparent strain readings, the error caused due to apparent strain scatter (by using different strain gages) can be reduced to great extent. In this paper the thermal characteristics of the reversible strain gage – repeatability of apparent strain, gage-factor change, creep, drift and the output for a given mechanical strain – were investigated. INTRODUCTION There are several problems associated with elevated temperature measurements, static or dynamic, the basic one being that alloys useful as strain gages at these temperatures are also excellent temperature sensors. Firstly, installation of the strain gage is a problem and secondly the apparent strain and change in gage factor makes it very difficult to measure the actual strain. In aerospace industry we come across a lot of situations when very accurate strain measurements at high temperatures are required, but in spite of a lot of improvement in new high temperature strain gages most of them are welded types. Hence, they cannot be used on materials like aluminum alloys or composites. In this paper, a reversible bonded strain gage is described for use at temperatures under 250o (482oF) that can be applied to a structure made of materials commonly used in aerospace industry like aluminum alloys and various composites. Aircraft wings are often subjected to high temperature and high acou stic noise level and the application of reversible strain gages to accurately measure the stresses is the main motivation behind choosing this paper for review.

The Yellow Wallpaper Reading Response

This is a fictional story, in classic form, has a plot, a setting, a cast of characters, and a point of view in which the story is told. The conflict of this story is the struggle of Jane against her husband and then later her struggle against the wallpaper itself. However, it is the way in which the story is told and the unexpected conclusion at the end of it that make it unique and part of the 19th century. The setting of this story takes place during the summer in a rented home that John has acquired so that the narrator may rest and get well again. The story takes place about the time in which it was written, in the late 19th century. The house is a colonial mansion, which our narrator quickly tells us she thinks is haunted. It is in a rural setting surrounded by gardens and woods with â€Å"a lovely shaded winding road† leading up to the mansion. The main setting, which the narrator describes, is the room in which she stays. She goes into explicit detail as she carefully d escribes the yellow wallpaper which consumes more and more of her attention. The wallpaper becomes a moving prison to our main character, while other characters, like John, barely seem to notice its presence. There are not many characters in this story, but each one plays a vital role in giving the reader insight into the mind of the writer and allowing the reader to come to a deeper understanding of the meaning of the story. Jennie, a flat character and foil of the main character, is the main character’s sister-in-law and is the caretaker of the home. She is the â€Å"perfect and enthusiastic housekeeper and hopes for no better profession† who serves as a substitute wife for John’s traditional family view. She is the imprisoned woman who is perfectly fine with her prison, even blaming the narrator’s sickness on her untraditional thinking and writing.John, who is also a flat character, is the main character’s husband and is the archetype of the 19th century white male. He is a successful â€Å"practical physician† who treats his wife more like a patient than he does an equal partner. John is a representative image of the dominant sunlight, which in the story keeps the woman behind strict bars and prevents her from being free or creative. Though the narrator never explicitly tells us her name, the very end of the story says, â€Å"’I’ve got out at last,’ said I, ‘in spite of you and Jane. And I’ve pulled off most of the paper, so you can’t put me back! † This is a clear indication to me that the narrator’s name is Jane, as revealed by the crazy woman (Jane) who now thinks she was the one in the wallpaper. The narrator of the story, Jane, is the main character and is a round character that is fully developed. She is representative of the woman imprisoned, unsatisfied with being merely the submissive housekeeper. Jane is like the less dominant moon, which in the story allows the bars of the wallpaper to move and free the woman in the wallpaper from her daytime prison. We are given an insight into Jane’s mind and opinions through her writings in her journal. This story is told in first-person narration. However, it is not in traditional story form, but it is constructed as if we are reading the hidden journal of the Jane who is telling, us alone, all her intimate thoughts. This also allows for the time-lapse in which the story skips over weeks at a time allowing the reader to gain an understanding of what is going on without having to read mundane and unimportant details. The chronological order of the journal also lends to it appearing as if it could be an actual journal the audience is reading.Although The Yellow Wallpaper has all the components of the average fictional story such as plot, a setting, characters, and is even told in a fairly common point of view, the brilliant writing of the story combined with the unique way in which it is presented, make for an exciting story that keeps the reader’s attention. The story is also a deep insight into the author’s world and time revealing her own personal point of view. It is this creative writing, coupled with deep meaning and veiled in captivating writing, which assures this literary work will continue to remain a hallmark of fiction.

The Speckled Band was written in 1892. In the Lamb to the Slaughter we had no idea who the murderer and victim were going to be until the murder had been committed, in fact you might of thought the roles would have been reversed once reading the first few pages. The detectives in the story are portrayed as acting as typical modern police detectives, they eat the evidence! The detectives appear so stupid and useless compared to the marvellous and calculating Sherlock Holmes. The points of high tension are different in the two stories. In The Speckled Band the main point of high tension is right at the end when they find out who the murderer is and when the snake comes at Holmes Holmes sprang from the bed, struck a match, and lashed furiously with his cane at the bell-pull. Other points of tension were Helen Stoner talking to Holmes, Frightened eyes like those of some hunted animal, the night of the murder, A wild wind. The wind was howling outside suddenly there burst forth the wild scream of a woman, and the sisters hot words, She suddenly shrieked out in a voice which I shall never forget, O, my God! Helen!
